Climbing Santa Barbara Castle is a must when visiting Alicante. The spectacular views of the city of Alicante with the sea in the background and reaching from Cape Santa Pola to Benidorm are amazing. To go to the top of the castle you can walk, drive or use the lift that is located by the beach. If we decide to walk up we will cross the picturesque old town of Alicante and then connect with the Ereta Park where we will find a restaurant, cafeteria and exhibition hall. Once in the castle we can visit the oldest remains of the fortress dating from the fourteenth century.
We can also visit two other enclosures. The intermediate enclosure has the most important dependencies that were raised in the sixteenth century and the lower enclosure that dates from the eighteenth century and it is located the so-called Revellín del Bon Repós.
After visiting the castle, we can go back to the Postiguet Beach, from where we can see the so-called “La Cara del Moro”; a profile shape in the mountain. This is one of the most characteristic images of the city.
How to get:
It is located at about 8Km from Finca La Viña.
The closest tram stop (Muchavista)is by the beach, 1.5 km away from the house . Do not worry about the tickets, it is possible to buy them in the same Tram or at destination. The ride lasts between 15 and 20 minutes and it is quite pleasant as it goes along the coast. Our destination is “Marq-Castillo”stop, from there we can choose to walk up or approach the elevator that will leave us in the same castle.
